Waterville Valley Resort will extend daily operations for the 2018/19 ski season by an extra week, making closing day Sunday, April 14th. Extended season lift tickets will be discounted to $55 for adults, $45 for teens, and $35 for juniors/seniors at the ticket window beginning April 8th. The McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center’s April Super Stellar Friday will feature a DOUBLE planetarium show on April 5th! The first show will be a special showing of Dawn of the Space Age in honor of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. Yuri Gagarin is celebrated each year on April 12th, on the anniversary of man’s first journey into space. The second show will be Tonight’s Sky, led by our Education Coordinator, Sarah Beattie. The double planetarium show will happen during the Discovery Center’s Super Stellar Friday event where the Center is open extra hours every first Friday of the month from 6:30-9:30 PM with special programming. To honor outstanding work in its field, the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance is seeking nominations for its annual Preservation Achievement Awards.  The awards recognize individuals, organizations, or businesses in the categories of restoration and stewardship, rehabilitation and adaptive use, compatible new construction, public policy, and educational and planning initiatives.  The deadline for submissions is April 3, 2019. The reports indicate that annual growth of 3% in visitation and 4% in visitor spending would more than double tourism’s economic impact by 2030 across the five state-designated tourism regions encompassing the Maine Woods. The reports recommend a strategy built on “high touch – high service” experiences and high potential emerging markets as the best approach to achieve this goal. Read more →
