More Steam at The Mount Washington Cog Railway Unique railway to extend steam driven trains, offer new fall options

MARSHFIELD STATION, NH – Due to popular demand this fall, the Mount Washington Cog Railwayhas announced that they will extend their morning steam trips through October 21st, (weather permitting). Starting in November, the railway willalsobe changing up the ride. Trips to the summit will be weather dependent, in the event that a summit trip is not possible, the new destination will be Waumbek Wonderland, about halfway up the mountain. Passengers will be treated to a warming fire, toasted smores and hot cocoa and amazing views. The ticket price is reduced to reflect the halfway trip.


Considered a must-do for visitors to New England, the first mountain climbing cog railway in the world offers amazing fall foliage colors. Riders can choose to ride up to the highest peak in the Northeast on the first train of the day, a vintage coal-fired steam train, or on one of the eco-friendly biodiesel locomotives that run the rest of the day. In the fall season, the Cog runs up to ten trips per day, departing every hour on the half hour.



Driving to the Cog Railway is all part of the adventure, as it is located along the White Mountain Trail,  designated a National Scenic Byway. Along the scenic drive up to the White Mountains, one can find quintessential New England towns bustling with everything from antique shops to local eateries.

Along the six-mile road to the base of Mount Washington, visitors can take pictures of waterfalls, wildlife and foliage in the White Mountain Forest.


At the Cog’s Base Station, visitors find a fascinating Cog Railway Museum, which shows the short documentary “Climbing to the Clouds”, a restaurant with indoor or outdoor seating to watch the passing trains, and a gift shop. The Cog offers an impressive $15 off on each ticket on the last train of the day throughout the season. The Railway runs daily through December 2ndthis year.
