CONCORD, N.H. —The Capital Center for the Arts presents Monty Python’s Spamalot for the first time in New Hampshire on Wednesday October 6 and Thursday October 7 in Concord, NH. Monty Python's Spamalot is the hilarious musical lovingly "ripped-off" from the renowned comedy team's most popular motion picture, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." It tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, their quest for the Holy Grail, and their adventures with dancing divas, flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits and one legless knight.
Monty Python's Spamalot is the winner of three Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols) of 2005, as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical. The original cast recording of Monty Python’s Spamalot won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
Filmed on a very low budget in 1975, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has since become a cult favorite among movie fans, and in 2004 was chosen as the best British picture of all time by the Internet Movie Database and the United Kingdom arm of Amazon.com. Eric Idle, original member of the Monty Python comedy team, used the film as the basis for Monty Python's Spamalot, which adds to the original story line by spoofing Broadway conventions. This includes a hilarious send-up of Andrew Lloyd Webber ballads called "The Song That Goes Like This." Eric Idle co-wrote the music and lyrics for Monty Python's Spamalot with John Du Prez, who has composed the scores for over 20 feature films.
The New York Times called Monty Python’s Spamalot “the best musical to open on Broadway this season” and The New Yorker raved that it was “an exhilarating, no-holds-barred smash hit!"
The Capitol Center for the Arts is the largest and most successful performing arts center in New Hampshire, presenting a wide variety of events including Broadway shows, dance performances, pop and country stars, family shows, international performances, school-time shows and business conferences and seminars.
