Theatre producer Gordon Miller is determined that his show will go on, if only he can get a backer--and keep from being kicked out of his hotel before opening night. A Barnstormers favorite, "Room Service" was the basis of the 1938 Marx Brothers film by the same name.
The Barnstormers has assembled a stellar ensemble cast for "Room Service," including many returning favorites and a few newcomers: Bob Bates, Billy Butler, Will Cabel, Andrew Codispoti, Dick Cook, Kelley Curran, Josh Gunn, Blair Hundertmark, Dale Place, Doug Shapiro, Ken Sheldon, Angela Smith, and Pat Tierney.
"Room Service" is especially appropriate for The Barnstormers as it was written during the same time period in which the theatre was founded. "There's a wonderful optimism that comes from that period, despite the depression and all the things they had to deal with," says Shea. "It's also wonderfully constructed, the type of play you'd use when teaching a course about classical American play structure."
Performances of "Room Service" are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, plus a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $24.50 to $29.50 for evening shows and $15 to $20 for matinees. Friday night is Family Night, with family groups (containing at least one person age 18 or under) admitted for half price, first come first served, on the day of the show. Not all productions are suitable for very young children. Please ask at the box office.
