The latest in a series of expanding off-mountain activities at Waterville Valley Resort is the addition of fat bikes available to rent from the Nordic Center. Fat bikes mountain bikes with oversized tires designed to float in soft and challenging terrain, including snow. Developed in Alaska in the early 1980’s, fat bikes have grown in popularity in recent years but are still rare to find at ski resorts in the White Mountains.
This year’s event is bigger than ever and will again be held at the Waterville Valley Conference Center to accommodate dinner AND dancing to the sounds of Boston’s own “The Marsels.” Also included in the evening’s festivities are a cocktail hour, a LIVE auction and a silent auction, all to benefit the art and science education programs at the Margret and H.A. Rey Center.

For a 10th straight year, Waterville Valley Resort is donating its resources to raise money for Boarding For Breast Cancer. Over the previous 9 years, Waterville Valley Resort has raised $43,000 for B4BC, which is a non-profit, youth focused, education, awareness, and fundraising foundation. This two day event concentrates the donation efforts of both employees and guests has been steadily increasing in size and stature every year, including this year which combines B4BC’s presence with a lift ticket special for Super Bowl Sunday.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports Program will host the first annual “Changes in Altitude” Ski-A-Thon and Après Ski Beach Party & Auction at beautiful Waterville Valley Resort. This inaugural event is the nonprofit organization’s major fundraiser event of 2015. Funds raised will support the Adaptive Program’s efforts to provide athletic activities for persons with cognitive and physical disabilities.

With the holidays over and the snow and cold settling in for their typical three month stay, it would seem that now is the time for the city of Concord, NH to rekindle its claim to be the US Hometown of Hockey. The 5th Annual 1883 Black Ice Pond Hockey Tournament begins Friday, January 23 and runs through Sunday, January 25. It will feature six age divisions and 91 teams at White Park on outdoor rinks.
