On Monday, May 4, 2009 the M/S Mount Washington celebrates the beginning of boating season with its annual “Shakedown Cruise.” The 2009 season marks the 137th cruising season for Mount Washington Cruises. The ship cruises around beautifully scenic Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire’s Lake Region. Lake Winnipesaukee covers 72 square miles and contains more than 240 habitable islands. It is surrounded by mountain ranges and mostly spring fed. A number of scheduled events will take place on the cruise including the annual inspection of the vessel by New Hampshire’s Department of Safety, Marine & Fire Divisions. The “Shakedown Cruise” has become an annual rite of spring in the Lakes Region and kicks off a festive season aboard the “Mount.”
The family-owned Mount operates May through October, offering daytime scenic, evening dinner & dance, and special themed cruises. With a capacity of 1,250 passengers, the Mount serves as the largest restaurant in the state and a popular gathering point for school proms, college reunions, large corporate celebrations and weddings.
