Unique Stewardship Opportunity for Historic Farmhouse in Windham
Monday, May 01, 2017
Check out this unique opportunity to rent and care for a historic house! The Town of Windham (NH) is seeking a tenant interested in rehabilitating a 1868 Italianate farmhouse in exchange for a long-term lease. According to architectural historian James Garvin, the design of this house is unusual, reflecting both the wealth and intellectual curiosity of its builder, Deacon Samuel Campbell Sr. (1819-1902). It is characterized by high-quality building materials, and innovative design and technology.
The 64 acre parcel was purchased and conserved by the Town three years ago. The house is surrounded by open fields on a winding country road yet within minutes of I-93 in southern New Hampshire. The house retains much of its original integrity including windows, doors and casings all of which are a high priority to preserve. The four bedroom/two bathroom house is in livable condition but needs updating. A new tenant will be selected through an open and competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Interested parties are invited to tour the Campbell farm house. Open House dates: May 6 and May 11, 2017. Pre-registration is required by contacting Jim Finn at 603-890-6587, 603-490-9108 or jwfinn@comcast.net. View RFP at http://www.windhamnewhampshire.com/.
