Covering New Hampshire Offers Health Insurance Shopping Tools

As 2017 Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment approaches, New Hampshire insurance shoppers can begin the process of finding the plan that fits their needs and their budgets by using a simple online tool now available on CoveringNewHampshire.org. The Get Covered Calculator can calculate how much financial help an individual or family is eligible for in a few easy steps.

The Get Covered Calculator is a tool developed by the non-profit, non-partisan group, Get Covered America, which aims to increase awareness of American’s health care options. By entering a zip code, number of household members, number of people who require insurance in the household, their ages, and the estimated 2017 household income, the Get Covered Calculator estimates the monthly health insurance costs, whether enrollees are eligible for discounts and tax credits, and whether anyone in the family qualifies for Children’s Medicaid or the New Hampshire’s Premium Assistance Program.

New Hampshire residents can access the calculator by going to CoveringNewHampshire.org and clicking, “Click Here To See How Much Financial Help You May Receive” on the homepage.

Open enrollment on the Health Insurance Marketplace for the 2017 coverage year begins Nov. 1. People who do not have health insurance or cannot get it through their employer can shop for a plan on the Marketplace. Those who already have insurance through a Marketplace Plan can also shop for a different plan during this period.

The online calculator can be a useful tool for families who are looking to enroll in a new plan or change their Health Insurance Marketplace coverage in 2017. Knowing the available estimated monthly costs and discounts provides shoppers with more information as they compare plans, premiums, deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs of the various Marketplace plans.

Here are the key open enrollment dates for those shopping on the Health Insurance Marketplace.

November 1, 2016: Open enrollment begins for those who want to apply for or change their coverage.

December 15, 2016: The deadline to get coverage beginning January 1, 2017. Those who apply after December 15, coverage will likely not start until February 1.

December 31, 2016: Coverage ends for 2015 plans. Those enrolled in a Marketplace plan will automatically be renewed in the same plan unless they opt to enroll in a different plan.
