MARSHFIELD STATION, NH –The Mount Washington Cog Railway, famous for climbing the highest peak in the Northeast, welcomed the 4th grade class from Wheelock Elementary school of Keene, NH on Monday, June 24. Mrs. Debbie Sawyer’s class won the first place prize of a field trip to The Cog Railway in the second annual Class Act Video Contest, sponsored by the state Division of Travel and Tourism.
Students across the state were challenged to develop a creative one-minute video that informs visitors what New Hampshire has to offer. The winning class modeled their video after the popular children’s show, “The Magic School Bus”, a series of adventures in which the students of Ms. Frizzle learn through traveling on a bus. In Mrs. Sawyer’s class video, the students of “Ms Hampshireizzle” experience all that New Hampshire has to offer from the seacoast to the mountains on a magic Segway, a nod to the popular scooter invented in the state of New Hampshire.
The students took photos and asked questions on the three-hour round trip up to the Summit of Mount Washington. On the ride down, they serenaded passengers with their own musical creation, “Magic Segway”. When asked how his day was, 4th grader Eric O. summed up the experience “This is the best day ever! First, a train ride up Mount Washington, then I get to go home and play a baseball game!”
