"Community Colors" exhibit at the Margret & H.A. Rey Center

WATERVILLE VALLEY- The Margret and H.A. Rey Center has organized yet another exciting and very unique art exhibit, “Community Colors”. "Community Colors" is part of the national "Draw On!" project (www.drawon.org) whose mission is to celebrate drawing. This exhibit includes artwork by students from local schools and works of art created in the gallery by visitors of all ages.

Five Rivers to Receive Grant Award

Concord- Five Rivers Conservation Trust has been awarded a grant for a land conservation project in Gilmanton.  The grant was given by the Wagner Family Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.

The grant will be used for the fundraising campaign, “Gilmanton’s Greatest Views- For Everyone, Forever!” a land conservation project that involves the acquisition and protection of four properties.  In addition to Five Rivers and landowner George Twigg III, the project also partners with Gilmanton Conservation Commission and the Gilmanton Land Trust. 

Five Rivers Conservation Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of central New Hampshire’s picturesque landscape.  The organization works as an active land trust doing its part to help keep those special places intact for future generations.  Five Rivers currently holds conservation easements more than 43 properties totaling 2,700 acres within Concord and 16 surrounding communities.

Military Saves Week 2012

As American service members return from overseas, one financial educator helps service members for “Military Saves Week 2012”

Bedford, NH: As American service men and women are heading home from Iraq and Afghanistan, many are facing debt, a tough job market and financial dangers. Peter Bielagus, a financial educator, is on a mission to help build awareness about the importance of financially educating our service members during “Military Saves Week 2012.” The “Military Saves Week” (February 19-26, 2012) is a social marketing campaign designed to educate service members on how to save and invest in their future. “Military families can sign up for the Military Saves Pledge at www.militarysaves.org,” says Bielagus.

New Hampshire Author Book Signing-On The Waters: The Joys of Fly-Fishing

Waterville Valley— Come and meet the Author of the recently published book, On The Waters: The Joys of Fly-Fishing, at The Bookmonger book store, in Town Square - Waterville Valley, NH – (603-236-4544), Thursday, February 23, 2012, 4:00 to 6:00pm.

Raymond Kucharski has been writing about fly-fishing and the joys of being outdoors for over 10 years and has over a half century of field experiences to write about. He is currently retired and living in Waterville Valley, NH.

The book is a compilation of fishing stories that appeared in Waterville Valley’s Wig Wag, the Plymouth Record Enterprise newspaper column Fins & Feathers, the American Angler and Flyfishing & Tying Journal magazines.

            Birdie Britton, editor of the Waterville Valley Wig Wag wrote “To read these short essays of fishing adventures by Ray Kucharski you come to appreciate the joy he gets from each fishing day and each cast he makes. The stories are not only charming but also informative about ways of catching the wily fish. I am sure you will enjoy these tales of New Hampshire and New England fishing as our readers have. New Hampshire Ski Legends Honored By New Waterville Valley Hall Of Fame

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. (February 18, 2012) – To mark the 45^th anniversary of opening of the Waterville Valley Ski Resort, a new Hall of Fame has been established to honor those who have had an impact on the legacy of Waterville Valley. An award dinner and induction ceremony is planned for Mar. 31 at the resort, located just minutes from exit 28 off Interstate 93 in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest.

            The 2012 Inaugural “class” includes individuals who have impacted both Waterville Valley and the ski industry as a whole. The list includes Tom Corcoran, the founder and master developer of Waterville Valley and two-time Olympian; Anna McIntyre, club leader of BBTS Snowsports Educational Foundation, and World Cup organizer; Jim Shea, the owner and founder of Capital Distributors, a major financial supporter of many of the events hosted at Waterville over the years; and lastly Wayne Wong, freestyle legend and World Champion who helped put freestyle skiing on the map and who often called the area his second home.

            Wong also recognizes Waterville Valley as playing a large part in the birth of freestyle skiing – it was the first ski area to organize and host the National Championships of Exhibition Skiing in 1971.

            Corcoran, McIntyre, and Wong will all be at the resort for the weekend of the ceremony, along with the family of Jim Shea.

            The Induction Ceremony, open to the public, will occur during an awards dinner on Saturday, Mar. 31^st. Earlier that day, skiers or riders will have the opportunity to spend time on the slopes with the inductees.

            “This is going to be one of the highlights of the winter season”, said Bob Fries, President of Mountain Operations. “There have been so many people who have made significant contributions to Waterville Valley, and we wanted to honor some of them. This is going to be an annual event we hope everyone puts on their calendar.”

            Tickets for the dinner are $75 per person, or $900 for a table of ten if purchased prior to March 10. Afterwards, tickets will be $85, or $1,000 for a table. Proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit Waterville Valley Foundation. Space will be limited so advance reservations are encouraged. The telephone number is 603 236 8311.

            The Waterville Valley Hall of Fame Committee received and reviewed more than 70 nominations, and chose four recipients to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in its founding year. Those individuals nominated, but not chosen, may still be inaugurated in years to come.
