WATERVILLE VALLEY- The Margret and H.A. Rey Center has organized yet another exciting and very unique art exhibit, “Community Colors”. "Community Colors" is part of the national "Draw On!" project (www.drawon.org) whose mission is to celebrate drawing. This exhibit includes artwork by students from local schools and works of art created in the gallery by visitors of all ages.
Beginning in January, local and regional schools were contacted about participating in the “Community Colors” exhibit. The mission: Fill 6 foot paper panels with one-of-a-kind artwork. Seven schools participated and their panels now hang in the Rey Center Art Gallery. Included in the show is Campton Elementary, which had its kindergarten students draw on their panel on their first day ever of art class. Pemi-Baker Academy created a panel based on the question, “What do you need to survive?” and the drawings are intriguing. Waterville Valley Elementary students used Chagall as their inspiration and Waterville Valley Academy students filled their panel with ideas and items with which they could take ownership. Russell and Wentworth Elementary Schools created paintings on their panels using Impressionistic technique and the Holderness School found inspiration in Edgar Allen Poe and filled their panels with charcoal, conte crayon and pencil drawings.
Come join the fun and participate in this interactive art exhibit as well! There are blank panels for you to add your "color." These panels are displayed on the walls of the gallery with prompts to assist visitors’ creativity. Drawing stations with activities are set up to encourage creativity and exploration of drawing techniques.
