CONCORD, NH – A musical kaleidoscope of morphing patterns and fantastic imagery awaits to take visitors beyond the blueprints of nature and into the ethereal world of imagination in Fractal Zooms!, a new planetarium show premiering Friday, March 2 at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center.
Created from simple mathematical equations, fractal zooms can generate recognizable patterns of nature such as lightning, coastlines and seashells. The outcome of these equations – and introduced changes to the system – can lead the mind on a journey of imaginative creations from alien worlds to other dazzlingly complex abstractions. Fractal Zooms! is an immersive experience, delving into patterns smaller than atoms or larger than the universe, accompanied by an original musical score in 5.1 surround sound.
Friday evening’s event will premiere Fractal Zooms! followed by a presentation on the world of fractals by Discovery Center Educator R.P. Hale. The program will explore how simplicity and complexity are intertwined in nature and how fractals are discovered through science, math and art.
Super Stellar Friday admission is $9 Adult, $8 Student/Senior, and $6 Child. In addition to the main program, the Discovery Center observatory will be open from 7-10 PM. Following the program will be a free Skywatch outside of the Discovery Center with the New Hampshire Astronomical Society including personal telescope advice and assistance.
The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center features 21st century interactive exhibits on aviation, astronomy, Earth and space sciences, a state-of-the-art planetarium and a variety of science, technology, engineering and math programs. The engaging, robust educational programs are geared towards families, teens, seniors, students, community groups, and lifelong learners.
