Waterville Valley, NH- Waterville Valley Resort has a new dogsled program that will begin running in late December. The “Snow Dogz” program offers a choice of two excursions that will run every Friday and Saturday evening through the end of March. Guests have the opportunity to experience the unique tours by moonlight or headlight. Guests can expect to meet the trail guide and the dogs before the tour begins. Following the excursion, guests will have a photo opportunity with the musher and her team of dedicated dogs.
The “Valley Taster Run” winds through an open area on a trail running through the golf course. The entire experience will take about 45 minutes, and costs $65. For those wanting even more adventure, the “Moose Run” excursion will start from the Depot Camp and offer a longer trail through the woods, using part of the Nordic trail system. This experience will last about an hour and costs $95. Each sled holds one person, and upon occasion a child or small adult may be added for a cost of $25.
To keep the sled dogs in healthy condition, there is a maximum weight limit of 240 pounds. Participants must be at least 7 years old, and at least 11 years old to ride alone. Up to three sleds can be made available to go out on each run. Reservations will be necessary, and available through the Town Square Condos front desk office. Gift certificates are also available.
Leading the pack is Lidia Dale-Mesaros of Uktousa Sled dogs. Lidia has been training and running dogs for 17 years. It is a wonderful union of friendship and commitment between human and canine. The dogs are more than just trail companions; they have received extensive obedience training as well as their special training for dog sledding.
